GURUGRAM: A 22-year-old youth slapped by a woman following a drunken brawl with her husband allegedly abducted their two-month-old son, throttled him to death and threw the body in a bush early on Friday.
When his parents found Gopal, he was dead and the feeding bottle he was drinking from lay next to the bay’s lifeless body.

The accused, Manjeet, has been arrested.

Police said Gopal was the only son of Banarasi and Dhanno, residents of Katra in Jammu. The couple, who also have three daughters, had been living in a slum on Nuh road in Sohna for the past one year. Banarasi works as a labourer at construction sites.

Police said Manjeet would visit Banarasi every evening and the two would have a few drinks together. On Thursday night, he came to Banarasi’s house around 9pm and started drinking as usual. A couple of hours later, an argument ensued between the two.

Neighbours rushed to the spot and asked Manjeet to leave. But when he refused to do so, Dhanno allegedly slapped him in front of everyone.

The youth left the slum, but returned around 3am. He sneaked into the hutment, which did not have a proper door, and picked up two-month-old Gopal, who had a milk bottle in his mouth.

“After being slapped, he decided to teach the woman a lesson. During the early hours of Friday, he went to their home and abducted the boy. He throttled him to death and threw the body in a bush,” said Dinesh Kumar Yadav, ACP (Sohna).

When the couple did not find the baby in the morning, they informed police and a search was launched. The body was found later in the day and Manjeet was nabbed from his house. He has apparently confessed to killing the boy.

“Manjeet, who works as labourer, has admitted to the crime. He said he killed the baby to take revenge on his mother, who had slapped him the previous day,” the ACP said.
