Pune: Officials of the district administration have decided to take precautionary measures for 201st anniversary of Koregaon Bhima on January 1 in the coming year. Thousands of people are expected to be present at Perne Phata  to pay their tribute.

The administration has decided the move following last year riots between two communities which also led to the death of a youth on January 1, 2018. District Collector Naval Kishore Ram on Thursday visited the place to plan the event so that no untoward incident takes place on the day. Speaking to Sakal Times, he said, “We assure that next year, the event will be peaceful and we will work hard to maintain the law and order in the area. We noticed that there was not much disturbance at the actual spot of the victory pillar but in nearby areas and so we decided to visit nearby areas.”

.Speaking about other precautionary measures, the collector said that the administrative department is in sync with other government departments. “We are working with city police and rural police and making them aware of the happenings. We are confident that police officials will be able to handle the situation this year,” added Ram.
