Demolition drive conducted in several areas
TNN | Nov 1, 2018, 07:46 ISTLudhiana: Cracking a whip on violators, civic officials conducted a demolition drive in various parts of the city on Wednesday. Officials dismantled a dozen houses in Mundian Kalan, illegally constructed stairs in a building on Chandigarh Road, and two illegal colonies in Focal Point and Mundian Kalan. For the past few months, several complaints were being made against civic officials for not taking action against illegal buildings in the city.
The action has come as a reaction to the recent action taken against a building inspector from Zone C, who had been asked to sit as a receptionist in Zone D, instead of performing duty in any zone. Due to the rising number of complaints regarding construction of illegal buildings, MC commissioner KP Brar had issued orders to appoint building inspector Harminder Singh Makkar of Zone C as a receptionist in Zone D, while taking back all works from him. The orders were issued on Tuesday, and he joined as a receptionist on Wednesday.
Brar had received complaints against 46 illegal building constructions in this zone in the past 10 days, and she had already recommended a chargesheet against four officials of the Zone C building branch.
