Ford corrects Focus recall report: Supplier was Bosch

Ford warned that the defective valve may cause engine stalls, inaccurate fuel levels and possibly an "inability to restart the vehicle," increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Co. has filed a new safety recall report with NHTSA, correcting the supplier information for a defective canister purge valve that resulted in a recall of nearly 1.3 million Ford Focus vehicles in the U.S.

In the report, filed on Tuesday, Robert Bosch, of Germany, is listed as the supplier of the part, from its plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Global fuel systems supplier TI Automotive was listed as the supplier in the original filing Oct 24.

"The decision to make any comments regarding a recall, as well as the responsibility for them, lies with the automaker concerned," a Bosch spokesman wrote in an email to Automotive News.

A Ford spokeswoman wrote in an email: "It is not our practice to discuss supplier involvement in recalls with the media."

In a statement last week, the automaker warned that the defective valve may cause engine stalls, inaccurate fuel levels and possibly an "inability to restart the vehicle," increasing the risk of a crash.

"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is in close contact with Ford Motor Co. regarding the valve issue on certain model year 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles," a NHTSA spokesperson wrote in an email to Automotive News.

"The agency urges owners to take guidance from Ford and bring the vehicle in for repair once Ford alerts owners that the free fix is available."
