Parliament's portfolio committee on home affairs has called on Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba to account to it on Tuesday about his role in the impasse over the Oppenheimer family's private air travel business, Fireblade Avation.
This will be the first time Gigaba faces the committee since Fireblade chairperson Nicky Oppenheimer told Parliament that Gigaba agreed to the business operating at OR Tambo International Airport with Home Affairs customs services before allegedly reneging on that agreement.
The matter went to the North Gauteng High Court earlier this year, where Gigaba was found to have told untruths under oath.
It will also be the first time that Gigaba faces Parliament since Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane found that the embattled minister violated the Constitution when he perjured himself.
Mkhwebane's report included a remedial action that President Cyril Ramaphosa take disciplinary action against Gigaba.
On Thursday, Gigaba's appeal to the Constitutional Court of the North Gauteng High Court's ruling was rejected.
