Who is Lal Thanhawla

A member of the Indian National Congress, Lal Thanhawla is the chief minister of Mizoram since 2008. His political career started in 1966 as a member of the Mizo National Front. A year later, he switched parties and joined the Congress. He won the legislative election of the Union territory in 1978 and 1979. He was first elected as the chief minister of the state in 1984 and then again in 1987. In 1989 and 1998, the Congress came to power Thanhawla was chosen to be the chief minister of the state. Though he lost the 1998 assembly elections, he was reelected in 2003. He was the founder president of Mizoram Journalists, Mizoram Hockey Association, Mizoram Football Association as well as Mizoram Olympic Association. He also served as the chairman of the North East Olympic Commission. He graduated in 1964 with a degree in BA from Pachhunga University College (then Aijal College), which was then affiliated to Gauhati University.
