Revenue minister RV Deshpande throws kits at sportsmen, fuels row

DEJA VU: Earlier, PWD minister HD Revanna had created a row by throwing food materials at flood victims in KodaguKARWAR: Revenue minister RV Deshpande courted controversy on Wednesday by throwing sports kits at sportspersons, standing on a stage in Haliyal. The minister was to distribute the kits to sportspersons who had achieved success at the national, state and district levels.
Deshpande, who was in his home constituency to inaugurate the indoor stadium built by the PWD, was in a hurry to go somewhere. After inauguration of the stadium and speeches by dignitaries, the minister was to distribute the sports kits. The list of beneficiaries was long, and as officials started calling out the names one by one, and they took some time to reach the dais, Deshpande decided to save some minutes. The visibly upset minister asked them to stand near the dais and threw the kits, and asked them to catch their booty.
The video of the minister throwing the kits has gone viral and drawn adverse comments. “They are all our boys and know me very well. Some people are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill,” he said.
