Sprouts are back in vogue. A Siva Kumari from Jaggaiahpet proved this with her winning dish Chirudhanyala Molakala Laddulu at Our State, Our Taste, the cookery contest organised by The Hindu group, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh tourism.
Residents of Jaggaiahpet seemed to be health conscious as was evident from their inclusion of healthy veggies such as carrots and sprouts in regular dishes. Over 240 people took part in the competition.
Savitramma played it the classic way with her dish Natu Kodi Pulusu, which bought her the third prize. Yet another traditional dish that won the chef's heart was Vankayi Pachi Pulusu presented by Sujatha, which bagged the second prize. “I love cooking traditional Andhra cuisine and I believe it is my way of keeping tradition alive,” says Ms. Sujatha.
Several rare dishes such as Sweetcorn kabab, Thotakura 65, Thokkudu laddu were applauded by the chefs. The contestants once again proved that cooking is a form of art and felt that The Hindu group initiated a move to give these women and men a chance to showcase their talents.
The Fortune group, the RKG group, the Butterfly group and Kanchi Kamakshi are sponsors of the show.
