CMRL’s Egmore metro station gets IGBC platinum ratings for adopting green building concept

CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Limited received an award from Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for Egmore underground metro station, which got platinum ratings for adopting green building concept.
Minister of housing affairs Hardeep Singh Puri presented an IGBC plaque to CMRL at the 16th Green Building Congress 2018 held in Hyderabad on Thursday.
Egmore Metro was opened along with Central Metro, the underground transit hub, in May 2018. Like Central Metro, Egmore Metro also provides connectivity for outstation and suburban train passengers.
The underground metro station links Egmore railway station, where many south-bound trains arrive and suburban trains that halt at the same station. The station also links MTC bus stops.
IGBC, part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was formed in 2001 with a vision to enable a sustainable built environment by 2025. In the light of the growth of green building movement, IGBC green building rating system launched categories for new and existing buildings, interiors, healthcare, schools, factory buildings, green cities, SEZs, landscapes and mass rapid transit system.
