TRICHY: Enhancing anti-dengue measures, the Trichy Corporation on Thursday collected Rs 27,500 as penalty from an apartment in Srirangam that was found accommodating the larvae of dengue- causing Aedes mosquitoes.
Stating that the residents were warned and alerted several times to remove potential mosquito breeding sources like containers, corporation officials said they had planned pan-city enforcement drives to prevent outbreaks of dengue.
Sanitary officials are provided with two mobile units to cover two zones every day. Having appointed 600 dengue breeding checkers to cover all 65 wards, the corporation maintained that heavy penalty would be fined through door-to-door inspection till December 2018.
According to corporation commissioner N Ravichandran, there is no other option than to penalise residential and commercial buildings found housing the larvae of dengue mosquitoes. “In the last month, we collected around Rs 2.10 lakh as penalty across the city. The penalisation drive will go on vigorously”, said Ravichandran.
