GNNC helps 4 villages near end of stubble burning

Ludhiana: The extension cell of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, has adopted a cluster of four villages and resolved to make them free of stubble burning. The team of extension cell under the guidance of the management and principal of the college has not only moved from door-to-door, but also identified the farmers who shall be given the service of two happy seeders free of cost for sowing season. The machine helps sow wheat in the standing rice stubbles.
In an elaborate programme organized by the college in collaboration with CGST, Ludhiana, and KVK Samrala— district-level farm science institute— at Lopon village on Wednesday, two happy seeders were provided to the beneficiaries of the four adopted villages as Sultanpur, Lopon, Mehdoodan and Khaira. Deputy commissioner, CGST, Ludhiana, Amanjit Singh was the chief guest of the occasion while assistant commissioner CGST VJ Saharan and director, KVK Samrala, S C Sharma were the guest of honour.

Amanjit Singh congratulated the extension cell of the college which has worked on ground level by involving students in the grand project of providing the service of happy seeders free of cost to farmers for this sowing season. He appreciated the staff and students for helping four villages become free of stubble burning and shared this shall be a motivation for other educational institutions as they too will then come forward and do their part in saving and preserving the environment.


Director Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S C Sharma, sensitized the farmers about harmful effects of crop residue burning and advised the farmers to efficiently manage crop residue without burning to avoid degradation of environment. He appealed the farmers to adopt in situ management technologies advised by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.


Assistant commissioner CGST V K Saharan urged the farmers to establish linkages with CGST, Ludhiana, Guru Nanak National College, Doraha and KVK Samrala. “We are constantly on the go. We are confident that our goal of ‘no residue burn’ under Swachhta Pakhwada which we are observing from October 15 to October 31 shall be accomplished since we are getting healthy feedback and support of the farming community, the youth of the villages and the educational institutes.” he added.


Demonstrations on the working principles of Happy Seeder was provided by KVK Samrala for the benefit of the farmers and the students of GNN College Doraha.
