Chhath: No boats to ply in Ganga for 2 days

PATNA: District magistrate Kumar Ravi on Thursday banned plying of boats in the Ganga on November 13 and 14 in view of Chhath festival. The DM, while reviewing Chhath preparations, also sought support from his Saran and Samastipur counterparts in implementing the ban.
The DM urged the general administration department to deploy 15 officers of Bihar Administrative Service at various ghats from November 10.
The Chhath festival will begin with ‘nahai-khay’ on November 11 and come to an end on November 14 (Wednesday) when devotees will offer ‘aghya’ to the rising sun.
Ravi asked the executive engineer of building construction department to construct approach roads, watch towers, control rooms and changing rooms and barricade all ghats.
He asked the public health and engineering department to construct 152 toilets, 287 urinals and 50 tubewells at various ghats in the city by November 9.
The electricity department was asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply and availability of generators at all 92 ghats in the city during the Chhath festival.
