An £85 coat from River Island is flying off shelves after being given the nod of approval from a range of style bloggers.

The highly Instagrammable vinyl trench is sweeping the fashion world thanks to its flattering tie waist and expensive appearance.

Part of River Island's AW18 collection, the tawny brown number draws inspiration from pricier pieces by the likes of Marc Jacobs, Fendi and MSGM - and could easily pass for a designer coat despite costing just a fraction of the price.

The triumphant high street giant told MailOnline this week that sales of the trench were up by 40 per cent, with just under 100 units now left in stock.

It is now cropping up all over social media and winning plaudits from the style set, with River Island declaring it 'the coat that everyone's talking about'.

Made from polyurethane in an autumnal brown hue, it boasts notch lapels, side slip pockets and long sleeves with buttoned cuffs.

Blogger Naaomi Ross said she loved the coat because she can be 'as clumsy as I like' in it thanks to the water-resistant material.

It has also been spotted on the likes of Ellen Brockyard, Megan McCoig, Lauren Patricia Black and Amy Fuschia in recent months.

Pop star sisters Anna and Sofia Kuprienko - also known as the Bloom Twins - were also seen checking out the vinyl trench from River Island that's won over the fashion set

It is far from River Island's first foray into high fashion territory; in September this year the store released its first ever homeware collection inspired by expensive designer pieces.

It has also enjoyed huge success thanks to collaborations with the likes of A-lister Rihanna and designer Holly Fulton.

The superstar collaboration, which came to an end in 2013, raised the store's profile abroad and enabled them to expand internationally.
