Speaking at the launch of the guided tour programme of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi “apologised” to fellow judges saying he had not taken their permission before venturing into it. “So far my colleagues are concerned, I seek their post facto approval. The decision was entirely mine. I did not consult any of you. I apologise but I hope you will approve. It’s an experiment, a very limited exposure to the Supreme Court, a public institution that I thought… should be opened up in a limited way.” Initially, tourists will be allowed into the court on Saturdays. They will have to register online.
Seat Speculation
With top BJP leaders meeting on Thursday to finalise the candidates for Madhya Pradesh election, speculation is rife that the list could disappoint a number of leaders. Senior leaders involved in electioneering in Madhya Pradesh would go to the state for “fire-fighting”, sources said. As party sources admitted that the three-term government could have left many disenchanted, they indicated that there could be changes in around 50 sitting seats.
Late Arrival
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani visited Lucknow last month to personally invite his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath to the inauguration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s ‘Statue of Unity’ in Narmada district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Statue of Unity on Wednesday, and the grand event was focused on Patel and Modi. However, Adityanath skipped the event in Narmada and stayed in Lucknow. He will, however, be visiting Narmada on Friday and touring the Statue of Unity. Adityanath will be accompanied by officials and engineers of the government, who will explore the place for building a UP guest house.
