D’peth zone attaches eatery over tax default
Proshun Chakraborty | TNN | Nov 2, 2018, 03:39 ISTNagpur: The Dharampeth zone of Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Thursday attached a food joint — Sardar Ki Rasoi — at Kachipura for defaulting on Rs22 lakh penalty.
The Dharampeth zone drive started in the evening and succeeded in recovering over Rs10 lakh tax from the defaulters. Zone’s assistant commissioner Mahesh Morone said the drive will continue on Friday too. He said the zone will start the process to auction the food joint’s property in coming days.
On October 17, the Dharampeth zone led by Morone, had issued notices to 27 establishments at Kachipura on Central Bazaar Road asking them to pay arrears on or before October 20 else face seizure.
“Rs3 crore was pending from 27 units like prominent lawns and restaurants including Vishnuji ki Rasoi, Sardar ki Rasoi, Sai Vatika Lawn, Green Diamond Lawn, Dana Paani, Vasvi Lawn, office of Prashant Pawar, Bharat Lawn and Vaibhavlaxmi Lawn. These establishments are unauthorized constructions,” Morone said adding that Rs2 crore property tax and another Rs90 lakh in penalty was pending from them.
In 2015, the NMC had issued notices to 67 plot owners including 27 establishments under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act. All these establishments cropped up without any sanction.
