Rajkot: A Dalit woman was allegedly slapped by an upper caste man when she went to fetch water at a borewell in Mota Vadala village of Kalawad taluka in Jamnagar district on Wednesday evening.

According to the complaint by Ganga Makwana (45), she was filling water into her pitcher, when Kuldeepsinh Jadeja arrived in his four-wheeler. He asked Makwana to fill water after he washed his jeep, but she told him to wait till her pitcher was filled.

“This led to an altercation, following which Jadeja allegedly slapped Makwana and hurled casteist abuses at her,” said an official from Kalawad taluka police station.

Jadeja, who is yet to be arrested, has been booked under various sections of the Atrocity Act, threatening and manhandling under the Indian Penal Code.
