AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation wants more monuments to be included in the list of heritage monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The standing committee has decided that they will send a detailed proposal to the ASI requesting it to bring some monuments like Swaminarayan temple, Chakudiya Mahadev and Karnamukteshwar temple in the list of protected monuments.
Swaminarayan, Chakudiya Mahadev and Karnamukteshwar Temple are around 200 years old.
Officials said that the Swaminarayan Temple according to Gujarat Tourism website is the first temple of the Swaminarayan sect to have been built. In 1822, the land for the temple was given by the British government, and responsibility for the construction of the temple was entrusted to Anandanand Swami.
Bhatt said, "we asked members of the standing committee to give a proposal to be sent to the ASI for including the monuments in its list."
Amit Shah, the leader of the BJP in the corporation, said that the ASI has ignored Hindu monuments.
The AMC Heritage board has decided to expand the list of protected monuments.
