A 35-year-old murder accused was shot dead in Meerut’s Ghosian locality on Wednesday morning. Police suspect the attack was in retaliation to a murder in April this year. The deceased man named Irfaan was a dairy shop owner. According to police, at around 10 am, motorcycle-borne assailants shot at him and fled. The victim was rushed to the community health centre (CHC) in Sardhana where doctors declared him brought dead.

“We have sent the body for autopsy. Eleven people were named in the incident. No arrests have been made so far,” said Prashant Kapil, in-charge of Sardhana police station. Police said they believe Irfaan received a call shortly before he left for Ghosian locality where he was murdered.

“We are tracing the number and are hopeful to make a headway soon,” said Kapil.

In April, Irfaan allegedly killed a man named Haji Babloo in Sardhana and was arrested. Babloo’s family had allegedly threatened revenge on Irfaan, said police. “Irfaan and Babloo were business rivals,” said Prashant.
