Kanimozhi praises The Hindu for maintaining its objectivity and impartiality despite many challenges

N. Murali, Chairman, Kasturi and Sons Ltd. (KSL), on Tuesday called upon The Hindu’s management and employees to join hands and work together to ensure better prospects for the newspaper.

Speaking at the 62nd anniversary of The Hindu Office and National Press Employees’ Union here, he said the management and the union had always been like a family.

Deepavali greetings

“If we work together, despite several odds, we can make a turnaround,” he said, wishing The Hindu employees and their families a very happy Deepavali.

Kanimozhi, President of the Union and Member of Parliament, said that The Hindu had succeeded in maintaining its objectivity and impartiality despite facing many challenges. When the Union office-bearers presented her with a sum of ₹50,000, she gave it back to them, matching it with another ₹50,000 from her personal funds.

She said this was for rebuilding the union’s office on New Bungalow Street in Chintadripet.

Rajiv Lochan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kasturi and Sons Ltd., said it was a tough time for the industry due to the spiralling cost of newsprint and petrol and diesel, as well as intense competition.

“But if we keep our readers first and work together like when a family does in difficult times, good things will happen,” he said.

Nalini Krishnan, Co-chairperson, KSL, other directors of KSL, K. Venugopal, and Lakshmi Srinath, and the general secretary of the Union, M. Kamalanathan, participated in the event .
