The Madras High Court on Tuesday set aside the conviction and three years of rigorous imprisonment imposed by a trial court on 21 former students of Dr Ambedkar Government Law College here in connection with a clash that erupted on the campus in 2008 over the issue of celebrating Thevar Jayanthi.
Justice R. Suresh Kumar took the decision in the interest of the students who had completed their studies but were unable to practice law due to the conviction. He made a fervent appeal to the student community to desist from indulging in violent activities during their college days and insisted upon universal brotherhood.
