Ex-legislators have been told to collect their belongings, settle rental dues

The rooms of 18 disqualified legislators at the MLAs’ Hostel in Chennai have been sealed and taken over by the Assembly Speaker’s office. The order to seal the rooms was issued consequent to the Supreme Court-appointed third judge of the Madras High Court upholding the Speaker’s decision to disqualify the 18 ruling party MLAs under the anti-defection law.

A notice displayed on the front doors of the MLAs’ rooms referred to their disqualification by the Assembly Speaker under the anti-defection law, and noted that they had not vacated their rooms yet.

“Therefore, the quarters allotted to you is locked and sealed by the Secretariat,” said the notice dated October 29 from Assembly Secretary K. Srinivasan.

The disqualified MLAs were called upon to take their belongings in the presence of Under Secretary (Hostel Administration) by intimating him in advance and vacate the premises. “You are called upon to settle the rental dues immediately,” the notice added.
