Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that all five candidates fielded by the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition would emerge victorious in the by-elections to the three parliamentary seats and two Assembly seats in the State.
Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Kumraswamy said that the people in these five seats were supporting the coalition candidates. Jaimala, Udupi district in-charge Minister, S.L. Bhoje Gowda, MLC, Gopal Poojary, Ramanath Rai, M. Veerappa Moily, Congress leaders, were working together for the success of the coalition candidate Madhu Bangarappa of the Janata Dal(S) in the Byndoor Assembly segment of Shivamogga parliamentary constituency. Siddaramaiah, former Chief Minister, had also campaigned in Byndoor a few days ago, he said.
On the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kumar Bangarappa’s charge that no memorial had been constructed in the memory of the former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that already Mr. Madhu Bangarappa had given a design for the memorial. “We do not want to misuse the name of late S. Bangarappa and get votes. He still has admirers. It is not wrong to mention the achievements of S. Bangarappa,” he said.
On the delay in elections to the top posts of urban local bodies in Udupi and some other districts, he said that the elections to the top posts could not be held as the model code was in force.
