RANCHI: A 20-year-old girl of Mandar village in Ranchi district was on Tuesday brought back here after she was rescued from a house in Delhi.
The rescued girl said one of her sisters is also being held captive in Delhi.

Delhi Police had rescued the girl from residence of one Alok Verma on October 25.

According to the girl's statement to Kalyani Sharan, chairperson of state women commission, a placement agency in Delhi's Sant Nagar 'sold' her to Alok Verma with a one-year 'contract' to work as domestic help. "The girl was made to work for almost 18 hours a day but was never paid. Whenever the girl demanded money, both the placement agency and the Vermas passed buck on each other," Sharan told TOI.

"The girl was also made to work even when she was sick and wasn't given proper medical attention. She then approached the National Women Commission with the help of a friend. She was then rescued by Delhi Police on October 25 from Verma's residence," Sharan said.

Sharan further informed that the girl revealed names of two local brokers who facilitated selling of tribal girls to Delhi. She added, "We recorded her statement in front of station in-charge of Mahila police station. She will now be produced before a magistrate to record her statement again. The girl also informed us that one of her sisters is also being held captive somewhere in Delhi."

SP Ranchi (rural) Ajit Peter Dungdung said, "The girl will be kept at Mahila thana for the night and they can initiate a probe only after she files a formal complaint."
