Two dead in fiery gyrocopter crash near Orange
Two people have died after a light aircraft crashed in Orange about midday on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to a paddock on Forest Road in Spring Hill, 13 kilometres south-east of Orange, just after noon to reports that a light aircraft had crashed and caught fire.
A police spokesman said two people on board the aircraft, reportedly a gyrocopter, died in the crash.
Two fire crews were at the scene and had extinguished the fire by 12.30pm, a Fire and Rescue NSW spokeswoman said.
The police spokesman said officers from the Central West Police District had established a crime scene and remained on scene investigating the incident.
The crash occurred near Orange Regional Airport.
Gyrocopters, which look like small, ultra-light helicopters, are a type of aircraft that fly with an unpowered rotor.
