Idol of Sri Pydimamba taken around illuminated tank

A large number of devotees offered prayers to Sri Pydimamba ammavaru on the occasion of float festival which was organised in a traditional manner in ‘Pedda Cheruvu’ in Vizianagaram.

District Collector M.Hari Jawaharlal offered prayers to processional idol of Pydimamba who committed suicide by jumping into ‘Pedda Cheruvu’ after knowing about the death of her brother Pusapati Vijayarama Gajapati in battle with Bobbili Rajas in 1757.

Later, her idol was found in the tank and she became the local deity for the protection of Vizianagaram.

After successful completion of Tolellu and Sirimanotsavam on October 22 and 23, temple authorities made elaborate arrangements for the float festival. Her idol was taken around the tank which had been decorated with flowers and illuminated. National Disaster Response Force personnel are on vigil to avoid untoward incidents during the annual teppotsvam.
