A 30-year-old man died and three others were injured on the Mumbai Pune Expressway on Wednesday after a speeding tempo hit them while they were trying to cross the road.
They were working as masons in a village near the expressway, police said. According to Khopoli police, the deceased has been identified as Naresh Marskole (30).
“Marskole, along with his brother Suresh, Sunil Karvayati and Narendra Vuyek, were crossing the expressway. They were on the lane that leads to Mumbai when a speeding tempo hit them. While all four suffered injuries, Naresh had severe head injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead,” an officer said.
Police said the four men were part of a team of 10. They were from Madhya Pradesh. “We are trying to track down their contractor and we will get more details from him,” a police officer said.
The other three men have been admitted to a private hospital in Panvel and are out of danger, the police said.
“The accused fled after the accident. An FIR has been lodged against the tempo driver,” a senior officer said.
