A tuition teacher was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually abusing a Class XII student in Sanpada.
According to the police, the teacher identified as Ashok Jadhav (31), a resident of Govandi, ran Eklavya coaching classes out of a rented apartment in Sector 4, Sanpada.
“He had close to 20 students who came in batches. Between 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Monday, only two students were present,” senior police inspector Suraj Padvi, Sanpada police station, said.
Mr. Jadhav asked one of the girls to leave as he needed more time to make the 17-year-old victim understand a few concepts. After the girl left, Mr. Jadhav allegedly molested the girl following which she raised an alarm.
“The victim had failed in Class XI exam and was privately appearing for the board exam, and the accused was helping her for the same. When she raised the alarm, he threatened her that he would not help her if she told anyone about the incident and that he would ensure that she fails in the board exam too,” Mr. Padvi said.
The girl left for home and after some time, again came for the tuition, but she felt uncomfortable. When she went home after the classes the second time, she narrated the incident to her parents following which they approached the Sanpada police and registered a case of molestation against the tutor.
Mr. Jadhav was arrested under various sections of the IPC and the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The accused was produced before the Thane POCSO court on Tuesday, which remanded him to police custody till November 2. Mr. Jadhav also ran coaching classes in Chembur.
