Chris Reid, Manager of Australian gym chain Fitness First, spoke to Body and Soul about the new piece of equipment, saying: 'The best thing about the assault bike is that it works your entire body.'
According to assault bike retailers Rogue Fitness, the equipment 'reinvents and retools nearly every component of the traditional fan exercise bike', from the frame to the crank, pedals and monitors.
Using gravitational resistance from the air, the assault bike automatically determines how hard you work – in other words, the harder you pedal, the greater the resistance.
'Combining power from both upper and lower body creates an extremely challenging workout, but it also rewards you with an unprecedented level of calories burned on a piece of cardio equipment,' Mr Reid said.
According to experts, 60 seconds on an assault bike burns up to 87 calories which means a total of 5,200 burned every hour.
This figure is astonishing given the average woman should consume roughly 2,000 calories per day while an adult man is advised to eat 2,500 to maintain the same weight.
Fitness First recently installed a number of assault bikes in their conditioning area at their Sydney CBD location.

Resistance training has become the exercise du jour in recent years.
Australian fitness instructor Kristy Curtis previously told FEMAIL the key to a healthy mind and toned body is a workout routine which includes resistance training at least three times a week.
'Having muscle on your frame is important as it supports your bones which decreases [the risk of] osteoporosis and heart disease while also helping to maintain a healthy weight,' she said.
A recent study from Ireland's University of Limerick also discovered a link between lifting weights and a significant reduction in the symptoms of depression.
