Six persons including two arms supplier from Mewat have been arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. The arrested accused belonged to the infamous Cheeta gang.
"The accused have been identified as Kamal alias Deepak alias Thana (25), Kalu alias Sachin alias Bhalu (22), Tarun alias Ashwani alias Bholu alias Maruti (22), Karan Gogia alias Gogia (22), Shahid alias Saad(27) and Irfan alias Kala (35). Thirteen pistols with ammunition and two stolen two-wheelers have been recovered from them. The gang members were wanted in seven cases of carjacking, attempt to murder and robbery at toll taxes in Delhi and Haryana," said Bhisham Singh, DCP, Crime Branch.
According to the police an information was received on October 25 that the gang members would be coming near DDA Park in Sector-3 in Dwarka. On their personal search a loaded sophisticated pistol, three country-made pistols and 10 live cartridges were recovered from their possession. On verification, both the scooties were found stolen. The police officials later traced their arms supplier in Mewat identified as Shahid. From his possession, five country-made pistols were recovered from his possession.
Shahid told the police that he used to purchase illegal arms from Irfan who hails from Mathura. A police team raided several places in Mathura and it was later found out that the Irfan had come to the national Capital for supplying arms. A trap was laid and he was arrested from Kapashera area long with four sophisticated pistols of 0.312 bore and 8 live rounds.
The accused persons told the police that gang of Monu alias Cheeta comprises of over two dozen young criminals of Delhi and Haryana. Kalu hails from Rohtak in Haryana. He is a childhood friend of arrested accused Kamal. Monu the gang leader is his cousin. Lured by his lifestyle, he joined Monu's "Cheetagang" in order to earn quick money.
He had also participated in the agitations of 'JatAarkshan' in all over Haryana in 2016-17 and was again arrested and remained in jail for about 4-5 months.
