S S Deswal is new DG of ITBP

New Delhi, S S Deswal will be the new Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force that guards India-China border, an official announcement said here on Wednesday.

Mr Deswal, a 1984 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre, is at present the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mr Deswal’s appointment as DG, ITBP will be for a period till his superannuation on August 31, 2021.

The Cabinet Committee on Appointment has approved his appointment. He took over charge of his new posting at ITBP headquarters from R K Panchnanda who retired on Wednesday. .

ITBP guards the 3,488 km long India- China border and works at the freezing height over 18,000 ft in most hostile environment. This force is also deployed in internal security duties, including anti-Maoist operations and is also deputed abroad for security duties.
