How to cop Karisma Kapoor’s daytime smoky eye for your Diwali brunch

An easy step-by-step guide

Karisma Kapoor served up some major Diwali outfit inspiration this week at an event in Pune, in the form of a festive and fresh ensemble that turned heads. The Bollywood veteran stepped out for a jewelry brand event dressed in a hand printed Sabyasachi sari in lemon yellow georgette, which she accented with a healthy glow, sultry eye makeup and nude lips.

We’re all suckers for a good smoky eye but pulling off both a daytime-appropriate dramatic eye can be tricky. Dark eyes can veer into nighttime territory very quickly, but Kapoor illustrated how to translate a sultry smoky-eye into a brunch friendly version that’s just as alluring.

Here’s how you can recreate Karisma Kapoor’s smoky eye and nude lip

1. Starting with a clean canvas is the best trick. Prime your skin and then follow up with a hydrating foundation that leaves a dewy finish.

2. If the goal is to play up the eyes, an eyeshadow primer like the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion will ensure that the product stays in place.

3. For eyeshadow neophytes, a smoky eye palette like the Huda Beauty Smokey Obsessions Palette takes the guesswork out of applying it. Apply your lightest, shimmery shade across the lid with a flat brush. Then accentuate the crease with a matte medium colour. Smoke out the outer corners with the darkest shade and blend, blend, blend. Finish with eyeliner on the upper eyelid, and a smoked out medium shade under the eye.

4. When applying mascara, wiggle the wand back and forth at the base of the lash. It’s the mascara at the roots that give the illusion of length and volume. A mascara like the NYX Worth The Hype Volumising and Lengthening Lash will stay all day and build soft and full volume.

5. A pinky nude lipstick like the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink in Driver won’t retract from the dramatic eye while still imparting a pretty, feminine colour to balance out all the darker shades on the face.
