KOCHI: There are many online web portals that have been set up to promote the regional film industry but how far are they successful in doing so? This sole question prompted 20-year-old Fayis Cherpulassery to create an online portal that would be devoted to promoting and popularising Malayalam films.
A startup venture by Fayis, ‘Indianmemo.com’ is an exclusive movie web portal with reviews, photos, videos and other details of newly released Malayalam films. It is designed in a way that it simultaneously doubles up as a tool for online movie promotions.
Fayis started doing promotional activities at the age of 17. “The film industry is one field that hasn’t inculcated the nuances of digital marketing. Initially I used Facebook as a medium to promote movies and understand the cinema market. Later I extended my experimentation to other social media platforms like Instagram,” he says. Fayis also worked on promotional events and studied them thoroughly in order to gain further understanding.
“I found that these films are not promoted in an efficient manner so I considered starting a web portal that would help the film industry gain more reviews. The idea is to break the shell and get the word out there about a newly released movie. The promotional campaigns for each film is different. If the campaign is striking, it plays a role in the rating of the movie,” says Fayis.
He has promoted about 24 feature films and short films in the Malayalam and Tamil film industrythat includes ‘Ramaleela’, ‘Take off’ and ‘Sunday Holiday.’ Presently he is working on the promotion of the film ‘Prakashante Metro’. Favis has also been a promoter of the Rose Ashley film production banner.
