ALLAHABAD: 'Run for Unity' was organised by the North Central Railway to mark the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on Wednesday. The day was celebrated in the entire nation as 'National Unity Day.'
An oath-taking ceremony along with marchpast-cum-rally and 'Run For Unity' was organised at the NCR headquarters in Subedarganj. The programme started with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by additional general manager NCR Arun Malik followed by garlanding the image of Sardar Patel.
Speaking on the occasion, Malik said that a feeling of national unity amongst the citizens of a country is a prerequisite for its development. Sardar Patel single handily achieved the integration of various princely states into India at the time of Independence-an achievement for which he was given the title of 'Iron Man of India'. "Sardar Patel was the architect of modern-united India," he added.
Railway Protection Force, members of St John's Ambulance Brigade, Scouts and Guides organization and sportspersons of NCR presented marchpast followed by the run flagged off by Malik.
Railway officers, staff and their family members participated in the three-km run carrying placards, and banners with slogans and messages of national unity. Programmes were organized in all the three divisions of NCR; Allahabad, Agra and Jhansi.
