Bad roads unite BJP, Congress at AMC meet

Bad roads

The issue of bad roads was brought to the table during an AMC general board meeting between members of ruling party and opposition parties on Monday.

When leader of opposition Dinesh Sharma spoke about the condition of the city roads, he found support in a ruling party member who echoed similar concerns.

Chairman of Road and Building Committee Ramesh Desai said his ward Amraiwadi has been suffering because of bad roads since metro work started in the area. According to him, the civic body has dug up roads for development work but they have not been able to finish within deadline and as a result local people are suffering. He accused the board of bias towards the western part of the city, which according to him is given priority during development projects.

"I believe if the same thing had happened in the western part of the city, roads would have been fixed on a priority basis," Desai said. "But because the issue is from the eastern part, there is lethargy in completing the work."

He said the people in the area are suffering for more than three years, and he blamed the development work undertaken for the metro rail project. He said that even though the ground level work has been completed in some areas, the roads still remain damaged.

Raising similar concerns, a member of the Congress party blamed the Metro authority for not fixing the damaged roads.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY

“Why all the roads where work for the metro are damaged. All the roads are damaged. Even after a series of complaints, nothing has been done to resolve the issue,” Leader of Opposition Dinesh Sharma said.
