An Ola driver, who was found working during the ongoing strike held by app-based cab drivers in Mumbai, was beaten up Monday by protesters. The incident was caught on camera. In the video, the driver is seen asked to take off his clothes while the protesters thrash him and insult him. The Mumbai Police has lodged a case against the assaulters.

Over 40,000 drivers, who have been on strike since October 22 in the city, are demanding increased earnings and better working life. On Monday, the drivers marched from Uber’s Kurla office to Ola’s office in Andheri with black flags.

The drivers, who met the state transport commissioner on Monday, are likely to call off the protest today. This is their third protest in 2018. Nearly 90% of the city’s cabs are off the roads.

The drivers have blamed aggregators, such as Ola and Uber, for manipulating bookings and reducing their share of income from the trips made. They have also raised the issue of long working hours, with many driving for over 18 hours a day to acquire incentives. They are demanding a fixed fare of Rs 16 per km for AC hatchback, Rs 18 for AC sedans and Rs 22 for AC SUVs with Rs 100-150 fixed fare for first 4 km. Further, the want aggregators to ensure they earn Rs 15,000 a day, as well as an equal distribution of income between the driver and aggregator.
