Six CPI (Maoist) militia members from the insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh who were allegedly plotting to plant landmines targeting security personnel in the forest area in Bhadrachalam Agency were apprehended by the Charla police at Lenin Colony in the Agency mandal on Monday evening, police said.
As many as 30 gelatin sticks, five detonators, three each wire bundles and tiffin boxes, and 180 iron spikes were seized from their possession, Bhadrachalam Assistant Superintendent of Police Sangram Singh Ganapatrao told reporters in Bhadrachalam on Tuesday.
Six Maoist militia members from Rampur village in Usur block of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district were nabbed by a police team during a joint vehicle checking drive along with the CRPF personnel at Unjupalli road near Lenin Colony in Charla mandal on Monday evening.
They were identified as Madavi Bhudra (48), Madavi Bheema (25), Madavi Sukka (39), Kunjam Adama (31), M. Jaga (20) and M. Bhudra (28).
“A consignment of explosive material was recovered from them. The explosive substances were handed over to them by some top ranking Maoist leaders at a meeting held in the Pujari Kanker forest area in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. They were instructed by the Maoist leaders to carry the explosive material to Lenin Colony where they planned to plant them to kill police personnel,” he said.
They were arrested under the relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
