Berhampur: Police on Monday cracked two murder cases with the arrest of three persons, including a 73-year old man, for their alleged involvement in the crimes that took place under Badagada police station limits in Ganjam district last week.

Kirtana Nayak, 73, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly hacking to death 70-year-old Nityananda Nayak with a sharp weapon in his village on October 23. The weapon has been seized, said IIC of Badagada police station Jibanananda Jena.

Police said preliminary inquiry revealed that Kirtana of the same village and one of the relatives of the deceased had killed Nityananda suspecting him of having an illicit relationship with Kirtana's wife, who is around 70-year-old. The accused has confessed to his crime, said Jena.

Police arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in another murder that took place at Akalapur under the same police station limits on October 25, two days after Nityananda was murdered.

The accused, Jilu Nayak and Jitu Rout of Akalapur, allegedly throttled Simanchal Das, 35, of the same village. Police recovered the body from a nullah, on the outskirts of the village, the same day.
