Former top officials arrested in China for corruption

Two former senior officials from the and provincial government in were arrested over graft charges on Tuesday.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate -- the agency responsible for both prosecution and investigation in -- said that Ai Wenli, former of Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was arrested on bribery allegations, reported.

Bai Xiangqun, former of Autonomous Region, was also arrested on allegations of bribery and embezzlement.

The concluded its probe in both the cases, which were handed over to the procuratorial body for review and prosecution.

The arrests were part of an ongoing anti-corruption campaign launched by Chinese since he took office in 2013.

The campaign has led to the arrest and sentencing of more than a million and a half top leaders of the Communist Party, including several former military officials.

One of the most recent cases have been the detention of former Meng Hongwei, who is currently being detained in a secret location over graft charges.
