The 12th edition of the event is being arranged by World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in collaboration with Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), offering a kind of a platform for global tourism practitioners as well as policy makers to share their best practices, examine and identify opportunities and challenges that will impact sustainable development goals and its future.
As part of the event Haitham Mattar, Chief Executive Officer of RAKTDA delivered an important speech on “Sustainable Tourism Development – an overview and vista towards 2030”, where he looked into the vital areas in terms of focus and implementations that Ras Al Khaimah is undergoing.
The journey of Ras Al Khaimah towards sustainable tourism destination was officially announced in January 2016 – when RAKTDA introduced Destination 2019, a comprehensive tourism plan for the Emirate which was produced after widespread research and analysis.
In collaboration with the Waste Management Authority, RAKTDA has placed recycling strategy in place for the hotels of Emirates, as part of the Emirate-wide initiative to decrease landfill waste by 75% by 2021.
