November 10, a second Saturday, has been declared a working day

Bringing cheer to government employees, teachers and students, the State government on Monday declared November 5, the day before Deepavali, to be a public holiday.

However, the Government Order issued by the Public (Miscellaneous) Department declared November 10, a second Saturday, as a working day to compensate for it.

“Since the public holiday has not been declared under Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, District Collectors have been instruct to ensure that treasuries and sub treasuries in all district functioned with minimum staff to attend to urgent official business,” the order said.

The decision of the government to declare a public holiday on November 5 followed representations from various associations that sought to facilitate travel by government employees to their native places for celebrating the festival.
