AHMEDABAD: In a fresh twist in the case of ragging of 150 first year students at Institute of Infrastructure Research and Management (IITRAM), it was learnt during the course of investigation that the institute had ignored a complaint of harassment during the fresher’s party, filed by seven female students.

Confirming the incident, a source privy to the development said, “The institute had received the complaint from a group of seven girls alleging sexual harassment during the fresher’s party held at a private hotel, earlier this year. The students said they were made to place a ball on their cleavage and thump against each other.”

Surprisingly, no concrete action was taken by the institute and it was considered as a case of ragging only. Institute authorities confirmed about such a complaint received by them. In the first complaint about the incident in the fresher’s party, allegations were made against the same five students who were said to be the masterminds of the recent incident of ragging.

The female students who had complained earlier, were once again put through embarrassing ragging in the recent incident. “During the investigation before the probe committee, the girls had mentioned that if the authorities had taken strict action on their complaint about the fresher’s party issue, they would have been spared of yet another embarrassment,” said a source.
