Pune: Creating a Guinness World of Record for making supersized T-shirts made up from two lakh recycled plastic bottles for 2018, Plastindia Foundation has recycled two lakh plastic bottles or PET bottles and made 10,000 T-shirts out of it.

The foundation, which is an apex body with a common objective to promote the development of the plastics industry, has made 10,000 T-shirts to assist the growth of plastics and related materials. Along with it, they have also made a mark in Guinness World record 2018 for making World’s largest T-shirt which is made from recycled plastic bottles.

Sameer Joshi, a member of the environment committee of the foundation, said, “Recently, there has been chaos on plastic and the main reason for it is the littering habit of people. The government should take the responsibility of collecting and recycling it. We have found a new technique of reusing plastic bottles or PET bottles into T-shirts. Around 16 PET bottles are needed to make a T-shirt and we have made 10,000 such T-shirts by recycling two lakh PET bottles. This has helped to lessen the environmental impact and we are working more on it.”

“Recently, at a fashion show held in Sikkim, the models walked the ramp wearing vests made of 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles. Along with it, Emirates airline has introduced new sustainable blankets made from 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles. Not only this, the Indian cricket team jersey is also made up of PET bottles. Each kit including the jersey and bottoms is made out of an average of 33 recycled plastic bottles,” Joshi added.
