A married woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her house on Monday. She took the extreme step as she was being threatened by the wife of a criminal. The accused woman had thrashed and alleged that she moves around with her husband.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Ramrati Pal, a resident of Prajapat Nagar area of the city. Her body was found by one of his neighbours at 2.30 am after which the police were informed. Woman’s cousin brother Suraj Pal of Akash Nagar also reached the spot. Police, after registering a case, sent the body for autopsy.
The family members along with hundreds of relatives and local residents staged chakka jam at Phooti Kothi Square. They protested against Pappu Verma and his wife Sharda and demanded action against them. The family members held Pappu and Sharda responsible for Ramrati’s suicide. They said Ramrati suffered from depression because of Sharda.
Couple detained
Pappu and his wife Sharda were detained by the police and were being questioned further. Pappu is a criminal of area. About half-a-dozen criminal cases are registered against him.
Woman lodges complaint
Investigating officer from Dwarkapuri police station Narayan Singh Rathore said Ramrati was beaten by Sharda on Sunday afternoon. Sharda objected to Ramrati moving around with her husband Pappu. At 4 pm, Ramrati approached Dwarkapuri police station where she lodged a complaint against Sharda. After registering case against Sharda, the police took Ramrati to hospital for medical examination. The police assured her of appropriate action but she was under fear. The police have recorded statements of her husband Prakash and other family members. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
