In yet another case of an assault on a doctor at a Delhi government hospital, a senior resident doctor at the Sushrut Trauma Centre was beaten-up by the relatives of a patient in the wee hours on Monday.
Hospital staff alleged that the police officer called to take care of the matter also threatened and thrashed the doctor. The incident started after some of the family members accused the doctor of the medical negligence. This has led to an announcement by the resident doctors to go on a strike.
"This is to bring to your notice that there have been two incidents of physical assault on resident doctors working at Sushrut Trauma Centre, highlighting the serious lapse of security at the hospital. Regarding the incidents, the first incident took place on October 27 at 10.30 pm when a patients' attendant assaulted the surgery senior resident on duty and threatened the junior resident with threats of life. The second incident took place around 6 am on October 29 when a junior resident doctor was assaulted on duty despite a constable present on duty. Both the incidents were reported and the reports were submitted to the Additional Medical Superintendent," stated the letter submitted by the Resident Doctors Association.
The incident has stirred another round of war between patients and doctors. There have been several incidents where doctors have been assaulted by relatives of patients causing numerous strikes. The doctors at the hospital have announced an indefinite strike.
