CHANDIGARH: Under Section 19.1 of the Act, any person who has apprehension that an offence is likely to be committed or has knowledge that an offence has been committed, should bring the incident to the notice of the special juvenile police unit or the local police.

The failure to report such an offence, is punishable with imprisonment up to six months or fine or both. This penalty is, however, not applicable to a child less than 16 years of age. For easy reach, if one calls Childline on 1098, they will connect the concerned to the police and child welfare committee.

Sources said the incident took place not on October 15 but October 6. It was after the girl complaint of bleeding and pain in the vaginal area that her parents took her first to a private doctor and then to a government hospital. According to sources, the six-year-old, in her complaint, has shared that the boy entered the toilet and bolted the door and made her smell something which made her unconscious. She was then allegedly raped in the school's toilet. Not realizing what had happened, she went to her class. It was after her parents witnessed bleeding and pain that they approached the doctor who, as per sources, confirmed that she was raped.

The doctor, however, has denied it, sources said.

It was after that the parents approached the school, the girl was shown the pictures of boys and she then recognized him.
