DOD Orders Deployment of Troops to Texas-Mexico Border

As we mentioned off the top 5- thousand 200 troops are being deployed along the us mexico border.

The department of defense is providing this assistance ahead of the anticipated arrival of the migrant caravan.

Channel 5's valerie gonzlez joins us live from roma.

Reporter intro: the department of defense announced they are deploying 52-hundred troops to the southern border.

That grew from the initial 8-hundred announced this week.

We're told they'll have weapons but their exact assignment is unknown.

The route the central american caravan is taking is not clearly outlined.

Thats a large part of the reason for cbp requesting ground and aerial upport.

The helicopters that will be sent will help transport personnel and equipment to the locations they will need to be.

The dod will also send the army corps of engineers, and experts in combat engineering.

They have experience building temporary vehicle barriers and fencing.

There is currently 25-miles of concertina wire on its way to the border and up 150 will be made available.

This is wire that is razor sharp and could be used to deter illegal immigration.

Additionally, there are over 830 bp agents who will be ready to help with the caravan.
