Suspected H1N1 death in Dakshin Kannada district

MANGALURU: Another suspected death due to H1N1 was reported in Dakshina Kannada district, where a 72-year-old is the victim. According to the DHO, victim Lalitha, a resident of Kinya, who was suffering from a kidney ailment, was admitted to a private hospital in Attavar, with H1N1 infection, and was declared dead on Saturday.
Lalitha was admitted to private hospital a few days ago, after showing symptoms of H1N1 infection.

On Friday, when her health deteriorated, she was rushed to the district Wenlock Hospital, where she died after failing to respond to treatment. She was also suffering from kidney-related ailments.


DHO N Ramakrishna Rao confirmed that Lalitha had H1N1. Her reports will be sent to the Manipal Centre for Virus Research (MCVR) for their perusal.


So far, four people have been confirmed to have died due to H1N1 in the district, said sources.


Rao added that as of now 39 people have tested positive for H1N1 in the district. The highest numbers of cases were reported in the past one month, especially in Mangaluru taluk.
