‘Will consider Vanniyars’ demands’

In honour of freedom fighter S.S. Ramasamy Padayachi, the Tamil Nadu government will install his portrait in the Assembly, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced in Chennai on Sunday.

Addressing an event organised by the Akila Indhiya Vanniyakula Kshatriya Sangangalin Peramaippu, Mr. Palaniswami said that the government would consider the demands made by various Vanniyar associations.

The event was organised to felicitate the Chief Minister for enacting the Tamil Nadu Vanniyakula Kshatriya Public Trusts and Endowments (Protection and Maintenance) Act, 2018, installing the statue of Ramasamy Padayachi in Cuddalore and announcing a manimandapam and a government function to mark his birth anniversary.

The CM said that a total of 79 properties belonging to Vanniyar charitable trusts across 18 districts had been identified in the State thus far, and once the Act received the President’s assent, they would be recovered and protected.

Thanks voters

Mr. Palaniswami said that political leaders who claimed they were protecting the interests of the Vanniyar community had failed to take steps to bring a legislation for maintaining and protecting the charitable trusts and endowments created by philanthropists from the Vanniyar community. The CM also thanked the Vanniyar community in his Edappadi constituency for ensuring his win in the elections.

Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam recalled the steps taken by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for the welfare of the Vanniyar community.

S.S.R. Ramadoss, Akila Indhiya Vanniyakula Kshatriya Sangangalin Peramaippu leader and son of Ramasamy Padayachi, welcomed the gathering. Ministers, AIADMK MPs and MLAs attended the event.
