An exhibition of over 20 bronze works by sculptor Dimpy Menon celebrating the anthropomorphic form, is on display here.
Titled "Breaking Bounds", the exhibition at the Art Pilgrim gallery features works that Menon describes as "celebration of movement in a moment frozen in bronze".
With her elongated, elegant human forms that are sculpted in acrobatic motion, the sculptor said that she thinks of them as lyrical.
"Although there has been a certain evolution in my form and thought over the 25 years of my sculptural practice, the human form has remained central in, and for, my work" the widely-exhibited artist told IANS.
Menon, whose works were commissioned by Mumbai's Trident for its "ravaged lobby" after the 26/11 attacks, seem to embody a certain hope and free-spiritedness.
It was done to "proclaim the persistence of hope, love and the divine within", a note on the show by culture writer Reema Moudgil read.
In this exhibition too, Menon said her human forms are aspiring high, adding that she sees them as "an endless resource".
"There are no wasted spaces in (her) world. Her men and women extend their limbs to embrace what is and isn't.
"Sometimes to literally reach out to the stars,A or to ride the waves, to just sit in reposeA surrounded by blossoms, sometimes to strike a pose on an orb, or to swim in tandem towards an unseen shore..." Moudgil, who has reported on visual and performing arts, wrote.
In 2015, Menon won the Lorenzo il Magnifico Bronze award at the Florence Biennale, becoming the first Indian sculptor to do so, the gallery said.
"Breaking Bounds" is open for public viewing till November 17.
