Order issued on contempt petition

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the village officer concerned to measure the extent of land on which the house of Preetha Shaji of Kalamassery is situated and file a report before the court.

The court issued the order on a contempt petition filed by M.N. Ratheesh against the Kochi City Police for not implementing the High Court directive to evict the family of Preetha Shaji from the property.

Mr. Ratheesh had bought the property in auction conducted by the bank following the failure of her relative to repay a loan. Shaji, her husband, had stood as guarantor to one Sajan for a loan of ₹2 lakh by mortgaging his property of over 22 cents at Pathadipalam in 1994.

However, Sajan defaulted on the loan, and the bank took steps to recover the amount from the guarantor by auctioning the property. Preetha has been resisting efforts by the authorities to evict her from the land.
